چکیده

Programmed cell death 4 (PDCD4) is a tumor suppressor, and it inhibits tumor progression and metastasis. Even though down-regulation of PDCD4 has been implicated with many different types of human cancers, its roles in the progression of cervical cancer remain unexplored. Here, we have systematically examined the expression pattern of PDCD4 in cervical tissues. 15 cervical normal tissues, 14 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) or carcinoma in situ (CIS) of cervix tissues and 78 invasive cervical cancer (ICC) tissues were analyzed by immunohistochemistry. Compared with the cervical normal tissues, the expression of PDCD4 was significantly reduced in all cancerous tissues. The extent of PDCD4 reduction can be correlated with the cervical cancer progression and severity. Furthermore, the decreasing of PDCD4 expression correlated with lymph node metastasis, histological type and p53 status. Thus, our study demonstrated that the reduction of PDCD4 was closely associated with the progression of cervical cancer and it might serve as a potential diagnosis marker.

Tumour Suppressive Function and Modulation of Programmed Cell Death 4 (PDCD4) in Ovarian Cancer

BACKGROUND Programmed cell death 4 (PDCD4), originally identified as the neoplastic transformation inhibitor, was attenuated in various cancer types. Our previous study demonstrated a continuous down-regulation of PDCD4 expression in the sequence of normal-borderline-malignant ovarian tissue samples and a significant correlation of PDCD4 expression with disease-free survival. The objective of t...

Inhibition by genistein of the lipopolysaccharide-induced down-regulation of programmed cell death 4 in RAW 264.7 mouse macrophages.

Programmed cell death 4 (Pdcd4), a novel tumor suppressor, has recently emerged as an anti-inflammatory protein. We assessed in the present study the effects of 18 different food factors with anti-inflammatory activity on the lipopolysaccharide-induced down-regulation of pdcd4 mRNA expression in mouse RAW 264.7 macrophages. Genistein, a soy isoflavone, significantly inhibited pdcd4 down-regulat...

The clinical association of programmed cell death protein 4 (PDCD4) with solid tumors and its prognostic significance: a meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Programmed cell death protein 4 (PDCD4) is a novel tumor suppressor protein involved in programmed cell death. Its association with cancer progression has been observed in multiple tumor models, but evidence supporting its association with solid tumors in humans remains controversial. This study aimed to determine the clinical significance and prognostic value of PDCD4 in solid tumor...

Programmed cell death protein 4 down-regulates Y-box binding protein-1 expression via a direct interaction with Twist1 to suppress cancer cell growth.

Programmed cell death protein 4 (PDCD4) has recently been shown to be involved in both transcription and translation, and to regulate cell growth. However, the mechanisms underlying PDCD4 function are not well understood. In this study, we show that PDCD4 interacts directly with the transcription factor Twist1 and leads to reduced cell growth through the down-regulation of the Twist1 target gen...

Characterization of programmed cell death 4 in multiple human cancers reveals a novel enhancer of drug sensitivity.

Programmed cell death 4 (Pdcd4), originally identified as an inhibitor of murine cellular transformation, inhibits protein synthesis by directly interacting with eukaryotic initiation factor 4A (eIF4A) of the translation initiation complex. The relevance of Pdcd4 to a broad range of human cancers derived from multiple tissue sites is unknown. Protein expression patterns from the National Cancer...
